Ecolean develops, manufactures and markets highly functional and cost-efficient packaging solutions with low environmental impact for the international food industry – also known as Ecolean Sustainable Packaging.
The Ecolean® packages are made from the Ecolean Calymer™ material, which consists of 40% calcium carbonate – natural chalk – and polymers as the binding agent. This provides a package material that is flexible and tough, perfect for various packaging solutions, but also a material with exceptional environmental properties. After disposal, the calcium carbonate is returned to nature and the binding agent is transformed into water vapour and carbon dioxide after complete degradation, e.g. after incineration.
The Ecolean Calymer material itself is not for sale.
The Ecolean packages are manufactured and printed by Ecolean in accordance with each food producer’s instructions. The hygienic, hermetically pre-sealed packages are then delivered on reels to the producer’s factory.
The Ecolean concept also includes a ready-to-use production line in the form of equally unique filling machines and packing stations. In the filling machine, the pre-sealed packages are opened, filled and re-sealed in 2.4 seconds. The short filling cycle combined with the hygienic package guarantees an even quality of the filled product.
