More of the earth's resources have been used in the last 30 years than the whole of mankind has consumed before...
Ecolean's ambition is to provide functional packaging solutions with minimal environmental impact. This includes both the total energy consumption and the total emissions into air, water and soil during the life of a package.
Low Impact
We ask independent research institutes to assess the environmental impact of our packaging, from 'cradle to gate', compared with commonly used alternatives. The results from Franklin Associates, USA are summarised in the Environmental Presentation.

Ecolean packages have low weight and as a rule of thumb, the environmental impact of Ecolean packages is reduced in proportion to the amount of plastic we manage to replace by calcium carbonate.
Waste
The Ecolean package weighs 40-45% less than a carton package of the same size and weighs 60-65% less than a plastic bottle of the same size. After emptying, the virtually flat package takes up almost no space in the consumers' garbage bins or in the recycling chain.
Environmental Standards
Ecolean packaging is in compliance with the Essential requirements of the European Union packaging and packaging waste directive (Council Directive 94/62/EC) following the CEN standards EN 13428-13432.
The packaging is minimized with regards to the amount of materials used.
It does not contain any heavy metals or dangerous substances.
It is recyclable through energy recovery, Ecolean Calymer calorific gain: > 7 MJ/kg
Recycling
Recycling recommendations vary between different countries and regions, according to the collection and recycling systems available. Check with your local community what recycling channels are available. The package is made of polyethylene and polypropylene with chalk, and generally classed as number/code 07 mixed plastics (according to the DIN 6120 standard). Ecolean packaging can be recycled as mixed plastics for products such as pallets, trays, artificial wood and more. Ecolean Calymer material is recycle compatible with HDPE in concentrations of up to 20% of Calymer Material for such applications.
