What are the environmental advantages of the Ecolean Material?

We focus on two issues:

1) Minimise the use of scarce resources. This is achieved by substituting as much as possible of plastics with calcium carbonate.

2) Minimise the environmental impact of our products. By minimising the energy content of our products we also get considerable reductions in pollutant to air, soil and water.

Is the Ecolean Material biodegradable?

The Ecolean material is not biodegradable. The environmental benefits of the package is the minimal material used, see the Envionment pages for more information.

Can I invest in Ecolean?

Ecolean is not a public company. We are currently not seeking private investors.

Do you sell the Ecolean Calymer™ Material?

We do not sell the Calymer granules or film, we sell Ecolean packages and filling machines. It is important to be involved in as much as possible of the value chain to ensure a high quality product to the industrial end-user and to the consumer.

Can we use your Ecolean Material for non-food applications?

No. In order to focus our activities both in the area of Marketing & Sales, but also R&D we have decided to concentrate only on food related business.

Who has made your LCA studies?

We use Franklin Associated in the US.

How many markets are you represented in?

We have our own sales offices in six countries.
We are working with agents in some ten countries.
We conduct direct sales from Sweden to other countries.
We have regular sales of Ecolean products to more than 30 countries.

How long shelf life does a product in an Ecolean Package have?

This is of-course dependent on a number of factors such as product, hygiene conditions, cold chain efficiency, distributions systems etc, etc. In general, experience from our customers show that all parameters similar, ceteris paribus, our material gives slightly longer shelf life than competing products. This is not scientifically proved and is hence not a commitment from Ecolean.

This material seems fantastic! Why isn't it more widely used?

We are still a young company, but we are growing quickly. More and more customers are using the material. We aim to put the Ecolean logo on all packages sold in order to show the consumers that we are actually in the market.

Can the Ecolean material be incinerated?

Yes. It has a positive calorific value and the calcium carbonate contained in the material helps neutralise the fumes in the incineration oven.

Can the Ecolean material be recycled?

Yes, it can be recycled. We enter a dialogue with the recycling organisations in markets where we have substantial sales. We mark our material according to the ISO standard so that it can be sorted out as its own fraction.

In Sweden recycled Ecolean material is used for pallets, carpet liners, artificial planks etc, etc.

Can Ecolean packages be used in our packaging machines?

Ecolean packages is only to be used in Ecolean filling machines.

Where do you produce your packaging machines?

The filling machines are designed and produced by Ecolean in Helsingborg.
