Ecolean installs solar panels in Pakistan

Company News - Thursday, June 16, 2022

Pakistan has eight to nine hours of sunshine per day, as well as ideal climatic conditions for solar power generation. Ecolean is part of driving the demand for renewable energy and solar power in Pakistan by installing solar panels on its production facility in Lahore.

Global packaging supplier Ecolean has already committed to only purchasing 100 percent renewable electricity for all its’ plants worldwide, including Pakistan, China and Sweden. This was achieved in 2020 and will remain as a core objective to maintain during coming years. To shift out the power aggregates, which are kept as backup supply of energy, today driven by diesel, is the next step.

The Ecolean manufacturing process uses electricity as its main energy source, which can emit greenhouse gases depending on how the electricity is generated. By switching to renewable electricity, we can reduce the climate impact of our production, and help drive the demand for more renewable energy in society. On markets where renewable energy is not easy to obtain, there is a challenge on how we can end our dependency on fossil fuels. By installing solar panels on our facility, we are taking a substantial step towards further strengthening our commitment to renewable energy, says Peter Hauggaard, Managing Director, Ecolean Pakistan.

Installing solar panels on the roof of the production facility in the Sundar Industrial Area Lahore is expected to start in Q4 2022, after getting the relevant approvals from government authorities. Commercial start up is planned for Q1 2023. The panels will cover approximately 17 percent of the rooftop area. For now, the panels are estimated to generate 10 percent of Ecolean Pakistan’s monthly power consumption in the first phase and system capacity can be enhanced gradually depending on the need.

“The project itself is well aligned with our long term Ecolean sustainability goals and there lies great potential for solar energy in Pakistan thanks to our many sunshine hours each day during the whole year. When it comes to renewable energy, solar power is an effective source, especially here in Pakistan where the technology and its services availability are getting common now”, says Zeeshan Asif, Plant Director at Ecolean Pakistan. “We have met with several suppliers and found the perfect partner in Total Parco. This is their first industrial installation in Pakistan, and we hope that we together can drive the market for solar energy and show how sufficient this method is”.

“Total Parco is extremely excited to be Ecolean’s energy partner and we are looking forward to building a long-lasting relationship, which is built around our core principles of safety, respect for each other, pioneer spirit, stand together and performance minded”, says Aziz Ahmad Rishi, Manager Solar at Total Parco.

A letter of intent was signed between CEO of Total Parco Mr. Mehmet Celepoglu and Managing Director Ecolean Pakistan Mr. Peter Hauggaard on the 10th of June 2022.
